European Licorice Root

Story:

One of the most widely used herbs in the world: ranked in the top 10 by Western herbalists and as the most used herb in Chinese medicine found in over 5000 preparations for sweetening and 'harmonizing' other herbs. Native to Europe and Asia, it is also known as a sweetroot, referencing its Latin name and noteworthy alkaloid glycyrrhizin, which is 50 times sweeter than sugar. 

Tea: Add 1 tsp chopped root or a 1-inch slice per cup boiling water. Simmer or steep 10-20 min. Strain. Chew a piece as a breath freshener. 

Specific cautions: Use in moderation. Avoid if pregnant or breastfeeding. Contradicted for hypertension, liver disorders, edema, severe kidney insufficiency, low blood potassium, or heart disease.
