Considered a herb in Chinese medicine, jujubes texture is like a dried apple with a mildly sweet, bright flavour. They support Qi and Shen energies and are most often used in combination with other herbs. The jujube, with over 400 varieties, originated in China where they have been cultivated for more than 4000 years. Folklore says "Three dates a day keeps wrinkles away."

Use as a sweet-tart, app;e flavoured snack. Add to tea or soup and gently simmer for a few minutes. Use in meat and grain dishes.
