Holy Basil- Vana
Commonly known as tulsi, meaning 'beyond compare' in Sanskrit, this herb belongs to the mint family and has been honoured for thousands of years in India as one of the most sacred and useful plants.
There are 3 different types of holy basil known as Rama, Krishna and Vana.
Vana (Ocimum gratissimum), aka. "forest type", is known for its fragrance. The plant has green leaves and stem, with white blossoms. It is found in the Himalayas and plains of India. Grows wild in Asia and Africa and is used medicinally there as well.
Enjoy as a warm or cold tea. Add 1 tsp or more per cup of water. Steep 2-5 min in a covered pot. Strain. Avoid over steeping to preserve the high volatile oil content.
