Urban Homesteading: Let’s Make Beeswax Candles and Crayons
with Jodi Gunn
Saturday, January 11th, 2025
1:00 - 3:30pm
Beeswax has been part of households for thousands of years.
We’ll explore why.
This workshop will look at attributes of beeswax,
how to select candle wick, and how to maintain beeswax candles for the best burn time.
You’ll make your own tea lights with pre-waxed wicks,
a silicone mold candle, and hand dipped birthday candles.
We’ll also make beeswax crayons in several colours.
You’ll leave with instructions, recipes and confidence to experiment with candle and crayon variations yourself.
About the instructor:
Jodi Gunn, B.Comm, LLB, PFP, Cert. Yoga Instr., and Urban Homesteader
Jodi believes in curiosity.
After completing business school and law school she swung the pendulum and explored yoga, meditation, and eastern philosophy. A curve in events lead her to banking and financial planning. The question became: what is wealth and how do we define abundance?
For Jodi, abundance includes experimenting with creativity, resilience, fun… and connection with the community!
And what feels more abundant than:
local, delicious, and nutrient-dense food,
beautiful, fragrant, and nourishing skin care,
wild nourishment of prairies and forests,
and connection with growers, creators, and fellow explorers?
That’s urban homesteading.
Jodi would love to co-create abundance with you!
Let’s make tallow, balm, soap, cheese, sauerkraut, baskets, worm compost… and friends!
Jodi lives with her husband and two Jack Russells in Calgary, Alberta, and spends as much time as she can experimenting with all the urban homestead things.
