He Shou Wu, also known as Fo ti or ‘Mountain Spirit’, is a highly revered Chinese longevity herb with many legends purporting its ability to maintain the qualities of youthfulness and strength. It has a distinct sweet and slightly bitter taste, and its traditionally offered in its ‘prepared’ form where the root has first been cooked with black beans or black soybeans and then dried.
