An heirloom pumpkin seed, this variety is darker and larger than the common Chinese variety and it grows without a shell. Native to all the Americas, pumpkins and their seeds were a celebrated food and medicine source for many indigenous peoples. The Cocopa tribe of Arizona used pumpkin seeds for protection against the cold. Raw pumpkin seeds are also used in Chinese medicine for treating various conditions.
