Friendly Bitters
60 ml - made in-house
Bitters are amazing digestive support for many individuals who need help breaking down their meals to better absorb nutrients. Working with herbal bitters before a meal also gives us the opportunity to sink into our bodies and relax before a meal. Many bitter herbs are what herbalists call nervines, which soothe the nervous system so that we can get into that rest and digest mode. This floral, approachable bitters formula is for those whose indigestion is related to their emotions. Let these friendly bitters facilitate your digestive magic!
Mugwort
Mugwort is a digestive bitter and liver-supporting herb with a lot of magical connotation. Mugwort is in the Artemisia plant family, which is named after Artemis, the Greek and Roman goddess of the moon, the forest and its animals, young women, and was a protector during childbirth. You can identify Mugwort in the moonlight by turning a leaf over to reveal its bright, silvery and soft underside. People across the world have looked to Mugwort for centuries to protect them from evil spirits, possession, and bad luck.
Motherwort
Motherwort is a grounding bitter which stimulates the digestive processes. Is your mental health affecting your digestion? 17th century herbalist and physician Nicholas Culpeper said "there is no better herb to drive melancholy from the heart, to strengthen it and make the mind cheerful, blithe, and merry." A calm mind facilitates digestive ease.
Yarrow
This calming floral bitter is a herb that has a long relationship with humans. People across Europe have worked with yarrow to prevent bloating and generally calm the stomach. It helps to increase appetite and promote bile flow. It also promotes circulation to the abdomen, which can help with griping pains.
Lemon & Lime Balm
This herb is a go-to for “nervous indigestion.” Herbalists call this a carminative, which eases the functions of our digestive system. This helps to prevent bloating and gas while also being emotionally uplifting!
An added bonus of this formula as that these herbs are particularly helpful for those struggling with PMS - especially with digestive symptoms and irritability. Sometimes it is hard to be “friendly” during that time, but we hope this makes you feel more tolerant of others.
