Mucuna (Mucuna pruriens), also known as velvet bean or Kapikacchu, is a tropical climbing plant with a long history of use in Ayurvedic herbalism. In Ayurveda, it is also known as Atmagupta, meaning “secret self,” and has traditionally been valued as a nourishing and revitalizing botanical.

Mucuna is naturally rich in L-DOPA (levodopa), a naturally occurring compound found in the seeds. Our organic mucuna is carefully extracted using water and ethanol and gently vacuum wind-dried without high heat, preserving its natural qualities. The resulting extract is water-soluble with a smooth, earthy flavour and notes of malt, caramel, and coffee.

A beautiful addition to the modern elixir cabinet, mucuna pairs especially well with cacao, medicinal mushrooms, warming spices, and other rich flavours.

Use: Add ¼ tsp to tea, coffee, hot water, or an elixir. Start with a small amount and adjust to taste.
