Lemon Balm Hydrosol
Hydro & Steam Distilled from locally grown Lemon and Lime Balm.
The botanical name for lemon balm, Melissa, comes from the Greek word meaning honeybee, and beekeepers in ancient times planted lemon balm around the hives to keep their sacred honeybees happy. Best known for its calming effects on emotional distress, this lovely aromatic hydrosol is also beneficial for general skin care and makes a soothing addition to body sprays.
Our lemon balm hydrosol is mellow and slightly sweet, with a somewhat herbaceous and bitter note. Reminiscent of fresh greenery, this gentle hydrosol is a wonderful ingredient that will lend the supportive properties of lemon balm to teas (hot or cold), elixirs, lotions, and creams.
Lemon balm hydrosol benefits are moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, mildly antiseptic, and is a wonderfully fragrant addition to skincare. It’s said to boost the appearance of the skin and reduce the fine lines.
The wonderous character of this much-adored plant is present in this botanical water. Pairs fantastically with chamomile and lavender hydrosols for a sincerely relaxing concoction, or a splash added to your water, tea, or bath at the end of the day.
This Lemon balm hydrosol was crafted in-house via a hydro-steam distillation of the fresh and dried Melissa officinalis using a copper alembic still.
Suitable for internal and topical, cosmetic use.
What are Hydrosols?
Hydrosols are aromatic and therapeutic waters created by distilling fresh or dried organic and wild-crafted plant materials. All of our in-house hydrosols are true hydrosols — crafted through a long, slow, traditional distillation process using a lead-free alembic copper distiller, hand-sourced from Portugal.
Unlike conventional essential oil production, we intentionally keep the essential oils blended into the final distillate, ensuring every bottle delivers the full potency of the plant. We also prioritize fresh plant material whenever possible — and for good reason. Fresh plants carry something that dried botanicals simply cannot: living cellular water.
This cellular water is typically lost during the high-pressure steam distillation used in commercial essential oil production. It is rich in bioavailable minerals, phytosterols, antioxidants, and a vast spectrum of water-soluble botanical compounds — and it is precisely this that gives our hydrosols their depth of aroma and genuine therapeutic character.
